Listing Details

Having a great appreciation for music at an early age, DJ Storm started his record collection in the early eighties. " I always bought records. Even when cassettes were taking over, I still bought vinyl. Then when CD's took over cassettes, I still stuck with the vinyl.

After years of collecting records, plus receiving the latest releases to hit the streets, Storm's record collection runs deep. He started spinning in 1990. Always wanting to be a DJ, Storm began on a friend's turntables. Eventually, he got his own and has been playing ever since. In the early stages he played all different types of music and parties. At the young age of 16, Storm started spinning at different clubs throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City. This is when he decided to stick to playing his first love- Hip-Hop. Always a reggae fan, Storm would also flip the dancehall to get the club grindin'. Throughout the years, Storm has done a variety of NYC clubs including N.V., Expo, Fahrenheit, Webster Hall, Downtime, Cheetah, # 9, Etoile, Marrs 2112, Rhumba, Peppars, Solas, Ivy, Coliseum, Remy and Roxy. He has played at different venues throughout the United States, Belgium, France, England, Croatia, Slovenia, Ireland, Iceland and Spain, as well as various colleges. Storm has rocked parties hosted by Chris Childs of the N.B.A., Sunny of Hot 97.1 in New York, Megatron of Hot 97.1 in New York and Hot 97.7 in Boston, MCA recording artist Pop The Brown Hornet. He is Raekwon’s tour D.J. and has also spun at shows for other Wu-tang Clan members RZA, Cappadonna and Ghostface Killah.

He has also spun alongside DJ's such as Funkmaster Flex, Cool Mike Ski, DJ Enuff, Fat Man Scoop, Mister Cee, Doo Wop, Dollar Bill, Bobby Konders, DJ Camilo, Lazy K, Grand Wizard Theodore and AJ Scratch. Every month Storm puts out a mix CD of the newest and hottest records to hit the streets. His " mixtapes " circulate throughout NYC and beyond and has gained recognition for his latest efforts entitled “ Verrazano Villain Returns " which is hosted by Wu-tang Clan's Raekwon The Chef, “ World War 3 “ hosted by Capone of the group Capone and Noreaga and “ Only The Strong Survive “ hosted by Rocafella’s Young Gunz. He has done a commercial for MTV 2 and appeared on the Metro channel's show Studio Y which is hosted by Monie Love. Storm has also appeared as a guest D.J. on The Ricki Lake Show, cable channel Mun2’s show “ The Roof," the Playboy channel show " Lex In The City " and BET's Rap City:The Bassment along side Big Tigger and LL Cool J.

Storm( a.k.a. THE VERRAZANO VILLAIN because he was born in Brooklyn and raised on Staten Island which are connected by the Verrazano Narrows Bridge ) had a number of influences when he was striving to become a DJ. He grew up listening to names like Red Alert, Stretch Armstrong, Funkmaster Flex and Kid Capri. " When Kid Capri was on WBLS in the early 90's, I would rush home from playing ball and put my radio on. " I would sit two inches from the radio and just listen. I would listen to everything that he did. You couldn't get me away from the radio for anything. In the 80's, when Red Alert was on Kiss, I was a shortie and my Saturday night was Domino's pizza, a 2 liter and Red Alert.

With years of experience, Storm has the ability to recognize a hot song. " You have to be intelligent with your music selection. Every joint that I put on my mixtape isn't club worthy. It may be a dope record, but it is not appropriate for the club. DJ's have to learn how to read a crowd, play what the crowd wants and keep them rockin'. I've learned how to read a crowd and play the joints that are gonna pop off. I love rockin' a crowd. There is no better feeling than seeing a crowd dance to what you are playing. " And for the crowd there is no better feeling than being in the house when Storm is on the set.
