Born Brett Badelle, Quest-Live (aka DJ Quest on Twitter) grew up in Oakland, California, where the long-standing independent rap scene helped to mold his turntable tactics. Quest-Live was the official DJ for the As (formally known as 4Deep), and is currently touring and doing special dates as the DJ for The Jacka, and AP.9 of the Mob Figaz. As well as DJ’ing for Grammy winning artist Yukmouth formally of the Luniz. In addition, Quest-Live has toured with Nappy Roots, Pretty Black (RIP), and many other worldwide hip-hop and rap legends. Specializing in Hip Hop and R&B, Quest-Live first became interested in the art of record-spinning by attending an after school program, Youth Radio, at the age of 16.
While there, he produced weekly radio shows and was an on-air personality for 89.3 KPFB and 94.1 KPFA in Berkeley. After seeing the turntables in the back room, he transitioned his interest into action, staying up until the early morning hours to hone his technique and style. While working at KPFA, Quest-Live met a former intern from KPFA and KMEL branded Moe from The O who became his guide and mentor, issuing Quest-Live a crash-course in both basic business and how to upgrade his DJ hustle into a fulltime career. For Quest-Live, Moe’s wisdom-coupled with two primary role models-are blueprints for success. In terms of vinyl-control, Jam Master Jay is Quests-Live’s main influence. With such guiding lights, Quests ultimate grind extends beyond the booth.
Quest-Live has extensive community-service experience, volunteering for the City of Oakland Parks and Recs, Bay Area youth dance group Culture Shock, and Youth Court, a youth camp for aspiring attorneys. Quest-Live enjoys giving back to the streets that have made him so popular. As a successful professional DJ for over 8 years Quest-Live knows what young thirsty music fans want to hear, Quest-Live aims to please, not only satisfying the ears of the brothers in the club, but also can charm the ladies dancing in front of the DJ booth. Quest-Live loves to play to the crowd and drop fresh new tracks into his Live Hip-hop set.
