Rashida’s love for music began at quite an early age. A musician/singer and Spanish radio DeeJay, her mother kept her surrounded by music from conception. Her father a lover of brasilian music, jazz and soul named her after a Jon Lucien album titled “Rashida.” Although born in Los Angeles, her teen years were spent in Atlanta where she frequented hip hop and bass clubs, dancehall spots and religiously recorded the local underground hip hop shows. While attending the Atlanta College of Art to pursue fine art and photography, she could be seen dancing till dawn at deep house gatherings or working the door at drum n bass parties.

Already in love with the music she fell in love with the mix. “The idea of it thrilled me,” says Rashida. “At first , it sounded to me like the dj’s were creating new songs when they blended and mixed from one tune into another. I decided I wanted to to be able to do that too.” In 1998 after buying turntables from a friend she used to watch spin in highschool , and inherting her fathers record collection, she got re-acquainted with the sounds of her childhood. A couple years later in 2000, Rashida began buying and selling house, jungle and broken beat for More Dusty Than Digital, a then –new record store from where Rashida built her own rare groove and hip hop collection.

She started to guest on a local college radio station and soon became a resident at a local club and Frank 151 parties where she opened up for hip hop legends such as Maseo of De La Soul. Moving back to Los Angeles in 2002, Rashida has since opened for notable acts including Jill Scott, Floetry, Raphael Saadiq, Mr. Vegas, Eric Roberson, Common, Seiji, Sa-Ra Creative partners, Ty, Goapele, Spinderella, Charlie Dark, Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Planet Asia, and Medusa. As well as playing as the resident dj in the “Foundation Room” at the House of Blues on Sunset for shows such as LL Cool J, Angie Stone, D12, Slum Village, Talib Kweli, Louie Vega and DMX and the Pepsi Smash tour.

While cruising the local circuit such as Dublab, Metisse, Respect Monday’s, Afro Funke and Firecracker, Rashida currently holds residencies on Proper Sundays at the Little Temple, Cultura Wednesdays at Zanzibar, Fridays at the Temple Bar in Santa Monica, and House of Blues Saturday’s located on the Sunset strip. She is known for playing a wide range of styles from hip-hop and dancehall to rare grooves, soul and deep house.
